Phrasal Verbs Activation Pack 3

Phrasal verbs are expressions that are natural to native English speakers. They are very confusing for non-native English speakers. They're confusing because phrasal verbs are like idioms and don't always seem to mean what the words say. You cannot literally translate English phrasal verbs into another language. The vocabulary in this lesson is important for students to learn and master. There are a lot of phrasal verbs in this lesson as well as a set of questions which I have designed to help you learn, remember, and use the vocabulary and make it part of your active vocabulary. If you are serious about improving your British English vocabulary, these common British English phrasal verbs are essential. The phrasal verbs are: cancel out, check in, come by, go off, hold up, knock about/around, monkey around/about, run up, shut down, and turn up. Phrasal Verbs Activation Pack 3

Pick Up Phrasal Verb Activator

I picked up one of the video English lessons I made as part of my Daily Dose of English series from 2010 and thought it would make a good basis for a Britlish Library lesson. In this lesson we will look at the phrasal verb, pick up, as well as the phrasal verbs hold against, get on with, and take off. We will also look at some vocabulary items such as for a song, frail, record, vinyl, speaker, florist, look good on, tab, pick up the pieces, new line, bug, and runway. I hope that you will pick up a lot of new words in this lesson.

Plum Plumb Plume

Words that begin with plum* have some radically different pronunciations which confuses a lot of students. This lesson came from a request by Spyridon, a student of mine in Australia, who was perplexed by the pronunciation. I created this lesson to make sure that nobody need ever be confused by these words again. The lesson contains the most common plum* words including, plum, plumage, plumb, plumber, plumbery, plumbic, plumbing, plume, plumed, plummet, plummy, plumose, plump, plumper, plumule, and plumy. Listen to me pronouncing each word and do the exercises to make sure you learn, remember, and use them correctly from now on.
