467 Vocabulary A-Z
Did you know that there are over 600,000 words in English? That's a lot of words, and far more than any human being could ever manage to learn. Even Shakespeare only used around 55,000 different words in all of his works. Mind you, he did actually invent quite a few of them. To get a good mastery of English, you do need to expand your vocabulary as much as possible. The more words you know, the better your English will be. The Activities here will help you to quickly develop your vocabulary.

Opposites Challenge
In this challenge, you will be given 10 random words and will need to choose the opposites from the three possible answers given. The 35 words in the question bank are: ability, alive, amuse, awake, bottom, cheap, cold, cruel, descendant, ending, everything, exciting, finish, first, floor, friend, gentle, happy, hard, healthy, hell, horizontal, import, in, interior, laugh, occupied, refuse, remember, rich, shallow, shout, stupid, take off, and wet. Can you get to the top of the challenge leader board?
Orientation of Things
There are several fixed expressions using prepositions in English with which we talk about the orientation of things. If you have ever put on a jumper to find that the front is on your back and the back is on your front, or the inside is showing and the outside is hidden, then these expressions are important for you. In this lesson you will learn about inside out, back to front, upside down, the right way up, and the wrong way up. You will also learn the vocabulary: artist, button, conform, design, expose, fasten, hang on wall, point out, printed, rough, seam, smooth, and tailored.
Parrot
I’m not going to write the punchline of the joke here, but the tag line is What’s orange and sounds like a parrot? English humour can be difficult for non-native English speakers. This is why simple English jokes are a very good way of teaching vocabulary, and why I’ve chosen a very simple joke for this lesson. Parsimonious
Whether you have money or not, there is a lot of vocabulary in English to do with it. This lesson will help you talk about being careful with your money to being miserly with it. Whether you are generous with your money, or a total Scrooge, you will find the vocabulary in this lesson useful.
Pause
There are four homophones in the lesson which have very different spellings but exactly the same sound when spoken. The exercises will help you with your pronunciation skills.
