Recommend

Recommend

Rocío from Spain, and several other students, have asked me to recommend the best ways to use the word recommend. The verb recommend is used to offer suggestions as to what to do or where to go. We recommend things to others based on our personal experiences. I recommend that you do this lesson and see how we use this verb and I recommend that you take a look at this lesson if you have trouble using the verb recommend

Frozen Food

Frozen Food

Vocabulary that we use when talking about frozen food. This lesson was inspired by a student of mine, Monica from Italy, who asked why, if we freeze things, don't we unfreeze them? I decided to make a microlearning lesson that would provide the answer and give students the necessary vocabulary for talking about defrosting, thawing, freezing, and melting food items. This lesson uses short videos to make the message clear and gives you the chance to test your understanding of the vocabulary with a self-test feature.

Silent H at the Beginning of Words

Silent H at the Beginning of Words

Some English words begin with the letter H but don’t start with the / h / sound. This is because these words were borrowed into English from the original French. At first, they kept their French pronunciation, but gradually, over time, most of them became Anglicised and lost their French connection. Some of them, however, refused to lose their “posh” French pronunciation. These words, like honour, never had the / h / sound inserted at the beginning. I made this video and the English Activation Pack to help students like you learn which words should be pronounced with an initial / h / sound and which should not. There are 150 common English words in this English Activation Pack, and all have a recording of me giving the correct English pronunciation for you to copy. I have also included two interactive quizzes that will help you to master the vocabulary and the pronunciation. The quiz questions each have an audio file for you to listen to the pronunciation of the word in question. This is an extensive English Activation Pack that took a lot of effort to make. It was made at the request of my wonderful student, Monica, from Italy. Italian, Spanish, and French students will find this English Activation Pack particularly useful, though it will be helpful to any student of English looking to improve their vocabulary and pronunciation.
