Learn to distinguish and produce the vowel in Insect / I / with this Pronunciation Activation Pack. The biggest problem for students is hearing and producing the difference between the vowel / ɪ / and the schwa / ə /. These two sounds are next to each other on the IPA chart and are thus very similar. Both vowels are common in unstressed syllables and even native speakers have trouble distinguishing them. The schwa / ə / rarely carries stress. The Pronunciation Activator and Listening Activator will help you practice using minimal pairs containing the vowel
/ ɪ / and the schwa / ə /. Pronunciation Activation Pack 2 - Vowel in Insect / I /

Activate your use of prepositions of place. A preposition of place is a preposition that we use to refer to the place where a person or object is located. The prepositions of place include above, across, against, along, among, around, at, behind, below, beside, between, by, close to, down, from, in front of, inside, in, into, near, next to, off, on, onto, opposite, out of, outside, over, past, round, through, to, towards, under, and up, and this lesson looks at the most common of them and shows the student of English how to use them correctly.
For the entire duration of the universe you did not exist. Then, one day, you came into existence at the moment of your birth. Now, you are growing older and one day you will die. It’s the one thing in this world that we can be 100% certain about. Is it morbid to think about death? I don’t think so. In fact, I often contemplate my own demise. There is no point in hiding from the fact that we will die. If you accept that death is a natural consequence of life, it will not come as a surprise to you when it inevitably arrives. This lesson will teach you about the language of death and dying.
When do we use the /s/ sound and when do we use the /z/ sound, and what’s the difference? Let’s find out… The two sounds /s/ and /z/ are very close and cause endless confusion for students. There are some rules and the rules are normally to do with the voiced and unvoiced sounds. A voiced sound is that made when we use our vocal cords. /z/ is the voiced form of the sound /s/, which is unvoiced. Put your fingers on your throat when you say the word buzz. You should feel a vibration in your throat at the end of the word. This is caused by the vocal cords vibrating and adding to the sound. Now say hiss. This time you should not feel any vibration in your throat. Your vocal cords are not involved in making the sound /s/.
Activate the consonant sounds / θ / in thumb and / ð / in feather. In this Pronunciation Activation Pack we will be looking at the consonant sounds / θ / and / ð /. We will look at the letter combinations that give the / θ / and / ð / sounds. We will look at lots of words which have the / θ / and / ð / sounds in them. Finally, we will activate your ability to hear and produce the / θ / and / ð / sounds correctly. The / θ / and / ð /sounds are dental fricatives made by disrupting the air flow through a narrow channel formed by the tip of the tongue and the top front teeth to cause turbulence. The / θ / sound on the chart is shown in blue, which means it is unvoiced, while the / ð / sound is shown in green, which means that it is voiced. Letter Combinations for / θ / This unvoiced dental fricative only ever has this letter combination: TH. Not all words containing the letter combination TH have the / θ / sound in them. Letter Combinations for / ð / - This voiced dental fricative has these letter combinations: TH, and THE at the end of some words. Not all words containing the letter combinations TH or THE have the / ð / sound in them. Pronunciation Activation Pack 31 - The / θ / and / ð / Sounds
