Phrasal Verbs Activation Pack 3

Phrasal Verbs Activation Pack 3

Phrasal verbs are expressions that are natural to native English speakers. They are very confusing for non-native English speakers. They're confusing because phrasal verbs are like idioms and don't always seem to mean what the words say. You cannot literally translate English phrasal verbs into another language. The vocabulary in this lesson is important for students to learn and master. There are a lot of phrasal verbs in this lesson as well as a set of questions which I have designed to help you learn, remember, and use the vocabulary and make it part of your active vocabulary. If you are serious about improving your British English vocabulary, these common British English phrasal verbs are essential. The phrasal verbs are: cancel out, check in, come by, go off, hold up, knock about/around, monkey around/about, run up, shut down, and turn up. Phrasal Verbs Activation Pack 3

Would or Used To

Would or Used To

In 2010 I would make a new YouTube video English lesson every day. I called the series Daily Dose of English. Unfortunately, the series would never be as popular or as useful as I had hoped because it was too passive. I would later create the Britlish Library and find the software I needed to make my original vision for my lessons a reality. The Daily Doses of English were useful then and they are still useful today, but now I am able to make them into the active learning lessons that I used to dream about. This active English lesson looks at the verbs would and used to and shows you how to use them.

Silent H at the Beginning of Words

Silent H at the Beginning of Words

Some English words begin with the letter H but don’t start with the / h / sound. This is because these words were borrowed into English from the original French. At first, they kept their French pronunciation, but gradually, over time, most of them became Anglicised and lost their French connection. Some of them, however, refused to lose their “posh” French pronunciation. These words, like honour, never had the / h / sound inserted at the beginning. I made this video and the English Activation Pack to help students like you learn which words should be pronounced with an initial / h / sound and which should not. There are 150 common English words in this English Activation Pack, and all have a recording of me giving the correct English pronunciation for you to copy. I have also included two interactive quizzes that will help you to master the vocabulary and the pronunciation. The quiz questions each have an audio file for you to listen to the pronunciation of the word in question. This is an extensive English Activation Pack that took a lot of effort to make. It was made at the request of my wonderful student, Monica, from Italy. Italian, Spanish, and French students will find this English Activation Pack particularly useful, though it will be helpful to any student of English looking to improve their vocabulary and pronunciation. Death - Vocabulary Activator

Death - Vocabulary Activator

For the entire duration of the universe you did not exist. Then, one day, you came into existence at the moment of your birth. Now, you are growing older and one day you will die. It’s the one thing in this world that we can be 100% certain about. Is it morbid to think about death? I don’t think so. In fact, I often contemplate my own demise. There is no point in hiding from the fact that we will die. If you accept that death is a natural consequence of life, it will not come as a surprise to you when it inevitably arrives. This lesson will teach you about the language of death and dying.
